lyrics
Gold melts onto her skin
An offering glinting like open bone
He stands tall as a mast
Reaching through the dark
A hundred years' wait
She smells like flowers and rotting leaves
She's searching for the tallest trees
And she waits
Dig me into the dirt
Let my feet root into his
Marry me to a tree
Be forever free
Memory in our cells
And of our daughters and daughters to come
Branches trail down
Into our roots
Fingers strain out
We smell like flowers and rotting leaves
We're searching for the tallest trees
And we wait
Beautiful southern Gothic tunes with a psychedelic bent. A very comforting album, despite its uneasiness. Thayer is making some of the best folk music around - it's time you gave it a listen. (And, Thayer, Chicago's waiting for you...) Jonny Spinasanto
The Hope Sandoval comparisons on the vocals are certainly present, and the music hints at her bands' work, but here touches of good ol' fashioned rock flesh out the gloom-pop skeleton constructed via the spectral, yet very strong voice. An interesting LP for sure. I'd love to hear what Thayer's voice could do with just a guitar in a stripped-down, much less produced setting. brantly
